Minutes
- Spring Sports
- Badminton – Gail stated the League tournament went well.
- Baseball
- All League selection took place. At the meeting coaches recommended increasing the patch numbers to 15. Maryanne motioned to increase the All League patch numbers from 14 to 15. The motion failed for lack of a second.
- Coaches recommended the schedule created by the Vintage coach that does not recognize all Spring breaks. Requested that Maryanne bring to Board of Managers a schedule reflecting the 3 breaks as well as the coaches’ suggestion.
- Boys Golf – League tournament went well. The MEL was well represented at Sections and sent two individuals to NorCals.
- Girls Soccer
- Scott motioned to increase All League patch numbers from 15 to 17. The motion failed for lack of a second.
- Soccer coaches are concerned with the number of entries MEL receives for the Section Tournament. Recommend the League Rep discuss the issue with John Williams at the Section office.
- Scott handed out a corrected boys soccer schedule with the date 5/21/04 at the top.
- Softball – David indicated that the coaches approved the proposed schedule for 2005.
- Swimming – David handed out a proposed swim schedule for 2005. This schedule will be voted on at the Board of Managers Meeting in September.
- Boys Tennis
- Finals of singles in the MEL Tourney was awarded by default because one of the participants was unable to return the next day for the match.
- Section tennis tournament hosted by Vintage went very well. MEL was well represented in team and individual.
- The tennis coaches do not like the schedule format as designed by baseball.
- Maryanne discussed the new by-law proposal with the coaches. The coaches want a clause stating consideration will be granted for illness or injury that keeps a player from competing in the required number of matches.
- Track
- Several MEL athletes are still competing at the upcoming State meet.
- Next year the format will change. Sub-sections will not exist. Instead, there will be Division Meets to determine “Team” Section title -- 6 qualifiers per event. “Masters” Meet will determine qualifiers to State -- 10 qualifiers per event.
- Fall Sports
- Volleyball – Scott is working on a schedule for a frosh league. Usually each team hosts a “mini” tournament.
- Golf – Armijo is doubtful for next Fall. Jay will notify the League when a final determination is made.
- Winter Sports – No Reports.
- Schedules 2004 – 2005 – Joan reported that the new schedules would be available on the web site in July. At this point only Fall and Winter schedules have been approved.
- School of the Year
- Joan handed out the School of the Year point computations.
- Davis High was awarded the School of the Year banner.
- Other
- Web site– During the Summer, schedules, School of the Year, All League, and minutes will be archived.
- Bill Ewing suggests that ADs let their coaches know that if there is a problem, the coach needs to come to the AD, not send out letters of complaint. The school should pursue the issue if it deems it necessary.
- Reminded everyone of next years’ meeting dates.
- David Blackwell announced that he will not return as the Davis High AD. No replacement has been identified at this time.
