Minutes

January 15, 2004

  1. Call to order at 8:20 by Vice-President Barb Franco.

Present:

Update on Wayne Mills by Fred Jones.

Adoption of Agenda --   Motion by Scott.   Second by Gail.   Approved

Approval of Minutes of Board of Managers --   Motion by Scott.   Second by Gail.   Approved

  1. Old Business
    1. Additional entrants for MEL

    i. Another chance to qualify for Sections

    ii. Culminating Activity

    iii. For Varsity and J.V.

    iv. Schools must identify top entrants and remainder swim exhibition.

    v. David Blackwell motions that "additional entrants be allowed on JV and Varsity teams as exhibition at the MEL League meet.   Second by Fred Jones.   Vote Unanimous.

    1. Venue for League swimming and diving

    i. David spoke with representatives at UCD Schal Center and they would charge $24/hr which will include lifeguards and timing pads for the MEL swim and dive meets.

    ii. David motioned that MEL hold both the swimming and diving meets at Schal Center April 29, 30 and May 1.   Second by Maryanne.   Vote unanimous.

    1. Medical coverage - Forward to April Board of Managers.
    1. Wrestling By-Laws

    i. Review all proposed changes.   Basically this is just a clean up that was over-looked earlier.

    ii. Fred Jones motioned   that "The wrestling by-law changes be accepted as presented.   Second by Scott Kostecka .   Vote Unanimous.

    iii. David directed to meet with swim coaches to review League by-laws.

    1. Schedules
      1. Tennis
        1. Moved last 2 weeks of baseball schedule to top of schedule to accommodate MEL and Section play-off dates.
        2. Hold MEL singles and doubles on Thursday and Friday allowing Saturday as rain-out make up date.
        3. Scott Kostecka , Napa, motioned to accept schedule with changes to dates as follows:   3/0 to 3/8, 3/10 to 3/12, 3/11 to 3/10, 3/16 to 3/15.   Second "Gail McNally.   Vote unanimous.
      2. Track and Field
        1. April 21 Napa and Vintage both scheduled for home meets.   Possibility of holding this as scheduled with all four schools.
        2. Vintage / Napa --   Home meets must be on Wednesdays.   Meets are at Harvest Middle School.
        3. League Trials/Finals in conjunction with SCAC (Varsity only).   Alternate heats.   Bill will bring final information to next AD meeting and Board of Managers meeting.
        4. Coaches Meeting Thursday Jan 29 at 5 P.M. Room 55 Vacaville High School.   Clarify scoring for League standings.
        5. Fred Jones motions to accept the schedule as presented.   Second by Scott Kostecka .   Vote unanimous.
  2. New Business   Discussion Items
    1. Soccer field size.
      1. Coaches want language to standardize field size.   Attempt to make minimum field size 80 x 120 yards.
      2. Athletic Directors directed to talk with soccer coaches for April Board of Managers agenda.
    2. Increase All League patches
      1. Golf --   wants 6 and 2.
      2. Football - add kicker and punter patches
      3. Again, should we look at basis of All League patches so this is not continually revisited?
      4. All League should identify top athletes.
    3. Cross Country - Bill will bring a proposal to the Athletic Council from the coaches at a future meeting.
    4. Tennis   6 - 3   format to align with Section
      1. 6 singles 3 doubles.   Currently MEL plays 4 singles 3 doubles.
      2. Numbers of courts may be an issue.
      3. Darkness may also pose some problems.
  3. Section Business
    1. Reviewed the voting items.   MEL will vote as follows:

  4. Other Business
    1. Next (April 21, 2004) Board of Manager meeting will be at Armijo High Library at 8:30.
    2. Any meetings scheduled after the April meeting will start at 8:15.
    3. Vacaville has new swimming and diving coaches
    4. Badminton coaches meeting Saturday January 17 at Solano college 1 - 5.
    5. Reminder:   Vacaville High girls soccer; JV at 5:30 with Varisity to follow.
