Athletic Council
September 8, 2004
The meeting was called to order at 8:45 a.m. All Athletic Directors were present.
I Fall Sports
A. Football
1. Sideline rule handed out and explained
2. Reminder about Football Camp forms that are to be sent to the
Commissioner in the Spring.
B. Volleyball
1. Coaches are requesting the start time be moved from 3:45 p.m. to
3:30 p.m. This will be an emergency item at the Board of Managers.
2. Friday matches conflicting with football homecomings are a concern of the coaches and players
3. Scott handed out the frosh schedule
C. Soccer
1. Reviewed each school’s competition site.
2. Napa will play a couple of their matches at the football stadium. Scott will notify the schools scheduled at the stadium.
3. Reminder – Vacaville plays all home games on the football field at 5:30 p.m. with the J.V. first and the Varsity to follow.
D. Tennis
1. Recommended by-law additions for MEL tournament to be voted on at the Board of Managers meeting.
2. Fall League Tournament will be Thursday 11/4 and Friday 11/5 at Vintage High School.
3. Davis will be playing at U.C.D until further notice.
4. School competition site reviewed.
E. Water Polo
1. Not all coaches attended the coaches meeting.
2. Boys play first in the first half of the League and the girls will play first in the second half.
F. Golf Armijo will not field a team this year.
G. Cross Country
1. MEL meet will have a 2:30 start at Alston Park, Napa.
2. For the center meets and the MEL each school needs to fill out their own nametags.
3. Sub-sections at Angels Camp and Sections will be at Folsom High.
II Winter Sports – No Reports
III Spring Sports
A. Schedules
1. Baseball coaches want the schedule they proposed last Spring.
2. Tennis coaches are not happy with the baseball schedule. Maryanne will speak to the Board of Managers about the possibility of pairing tennis with another sport.
B. Mandated Competition Days – Reviewed the Section mandated game days.
C. Handed out invoices for League track starter bill.
IV Re-Alignment – League A.D. nomination to Section for re-alignment committee is Fred Jones.
V Insurance -- Reminded schools to check that their District insurance covers their athletes at meets that are not on school grounds. (ie. Lagoon Valley, Alston Park, etc.)
VI Other
A. Section fees – Section will be sending the League a bill for the volleyball entry fees in the amount of $100.
B. Play-off manuals were handed out.
C. Next meeting Monday October 4, 2004.
