Athletic Council

October 4, 2004

 

The meeting was called to order at 8:45 a.m.  Absent:  Scott Kostecka, Napa.

 

I           Fall Sports

A.        Football           No Report

B.        Volleyball        No Report

C.        Soccer             No Report

D.        Tennis             No Report

E.         Water Polo      No Report

F.         Golf

1.         MEL League Tournament Oct 21st at Paradise Valley

2.         Sub Sections hosted by MEL  Oct 25 at Cypress Lakes

G.        Cross Country MEL League meet at Alston Park Oct 27 a 3:00 start time.

II         Winter Sports

A.        Basketball  --  Pre-Season meeting October 26th 6:00  Armijo Library.  Each coach needs to bring 5 copies of their schedules to exchange with the other coaches.

B.        Wrestling -- No report.

III        Spring Sports

A.        Baseball

1.         Batting practice defined Ð Batting practice (cage and/or live) is allowed on game days.  The home team must vacate the field 45 minutes before game time to allow warm-ups and infield/outfield practice.
Motion by Maryanne to add batting practice definition with 45 minute warm-up regulation to baseball by-laws.  Second by Patrick.  Vote unanimous.

2.         The batting practice motion will be on Board of Managers agenda October 13th.

3.         League end date for baseball will be May 12, 2005.  Coaches need to be sure all make-ups take place before May 12.


B.        Tennis

1.         Last dual competition date will be April 28, 2004 whether tennis is with baseball or soccer.

2.         MEL singles and doubles May 5, and May 6.

3.         Maryanne will pole the Boys Tennis coaches for preference of which sport to be aligned with.

C.        Golf --  No concern with where Spring Break falls in the schedule.

D.        Track

1.         The 3 Spring Break weeks necessitates creating a new schedule that will be different from last year.

2.         Discussed again having League championship with SCAC.

3.         Benefits of joint meet:

a.         facility

b.         timing mechanism

c.         number of meet workers

d.         similar to section format

4.         League and Section dates

a.         League  May 11, 13

b.         Section at UCD  May 18, 20

c.         Masters (qualifier for State) at Hughes Stadium May 25, 27.

IV        Section Back-Up.

A.        Basketball power rating Ð Jay will be prepared to speak about this issue at the Board of Managers meeting.

B.        Officials Penalty fees Ð Late schedule, late payment, change in schedule.  Please discuss with your Principal prior to the Board of ManagerÕs meeting.

C.        Official pay increase / assignor increase.  Again discuss with your Principal.

D.        Handed out nomination list for re-alignment committee.

V         Other

1.         Each school was given CBEDS invoice for League dues.  The dues are $1.00 per student for grades 9 Ð 12.

2.         Briefly discussed the cost of awards and medals.

3.         Collected the re-alignment questionnaires that are due to the Commissioner by Friday, October 8, 2004. Ð Armijo and Vintage turned in their forms at the meeting.
