Minutes
Athletic Council
The meeting was called to order at 8:33 at Three Oaks community Center, Vacaville. All athletic directors were present.
I Fall Sports
A. Football
1. All League meeting 11/16 7 p.m. at Vacaville High Room 55.
2. Possibility of 3-way tie for 2nd place in MEL.
B. Volleyball
1. All League Meeting 11/4 6:30 p.m. Napa High in AD office.
2. Coaches need to contact Scott with final records so the information can be forwarded to the Section.
C. Soccer
1. Coaches are requesting a different schedule format for next year. They want a 10-game league commitment with a league tournament at the end.
2. Question: What is being done to recruit officials?
3. Schools should consider moving spectators further from the playing field to create a zone between players, coaches, officials and spectators.
4. Scott will work on a schedule for 2005-06 school year soccer schedules.
D. Tennis
1. MEL Tournament 11/4 and 11/5 at Vintage High.
2. Singles play first 3 rounds on Thursday with finals on Friday.
3. Doubles schedule to begin at 8:30 on Friday.
E. Water Polo
1. Three of the four league teams go onto Sections.
2. All League meeting still to be arranged.
F. Golf Ð both MEL League Tournament and Central Sub Section Tournaments were successfully organized and run by Don Trolinger.
G. Cross Country
1. League meet was at Alston Park, Napa on October 27th.
2. Sub Section meet Saturday 11/6 at Angels Camp and Sections will be at Willow Park in Folsom.
II Winter Sports
A. Basketball
1. Pre-season meeting was attended by all coaches, boys and girls.
2. Maryanne discussed a possible conflict of Feb 8th because of the High School Exit Exam. Most schools set up and take down tables/chairs used for testing when the gym is the testing area. All school should check with testing coordinator to avoid problems with League basketball games.
3. Scott reported that his girlsÕ basketball coach had violated the Section dead week rule by coaching an AAU team that contained Napa players.
a. Motion by Gail McNally to accept this violation as a level one misconduct. Second by Maryanne Christofferson. Vote 5 yes. 1 abstention (Napa)
b. Motion by Bill Ewing to assign the penalty to Òin-house actionÓ reported back to League. Second by Gail McNally. Vote 5 yes. 1 abstention (Napa).
B. Wrestling
1. Novice tournament at Napa High Wednesday 11/25, starting at 9:00 a.m. This tournament will be held with SCAC.
2. League dual matches JVs start at 6:00 p.m.
3. League meet will be Saturday, February 12 at Vacaville High. Both JV and Varsity will wrestle the same day; start time 9:00 a.m. Ð Seeding meeting will take place Thursday, February 10 at Vacaville High.
4. Fred reviewed future League meet hosts.
5. Official weigh-in sheets need to be sent to the MEL Commissioner and Thor Jensen at Wood.
6. 2007 MEL hosts sub sections. Armijo has volunteered to be the host at this time.
7. Take down tournaments are illegal.
8. By-law change requested for 02.4 of General rules to include wrestling as recipients of medals for 2nd and 3rd place winners. This will be an emergency item for the Board of Managers.
III Spring Sports
Tennis
1. Maryanne handed out a Spring tennis schedule based on girls soccer. May 3 and 5 were moved to March 1 and 3 to accommodate tennis play-off dates League and Section.
2. Vacaville and possibly Armijo play night soccer games that would necessitate tennis traveling separately to those sites.
IV Other
A. Standing committee Ð Joan has contacted representatives from Armijo, Davis, Vacaville and Wood. Keith Orr is a possible representative from Napa.
B. Dues have been received from Armijo, Davis and Vintage. Napa, Vacaville and Wood please check with your accounting department regarding payment.
C. Realignment
1. Fred Jones briefly reviewed the meeting Barb Franco and he had with SCAC representatives Vic Ramos and Leo Petty. The meeting was held after the Section meeting.
2. It is the consensus of the ADs that only the League President, Commissioner and Fred Jones meet with SCAC.
D. League results Ð Joan reminded ADs to forward, via email, the final League standings and All League recipients so these can be posted on the web site.
E. Patrick requests that by-law 0.12 requiring administrator attendance at all basketball games be reviewed by Board of Managers.
F. Jay informed everyone that Armijo would be getting a synthetic track and football field in the near future.
G. Next meeting is December 1st at 8:30 a.m. at Three Oaks.
