Minutes

Athletic Council

January 6, 2005

 

The meeting was called to order at 8:34 at Three Oaks Community Center, Vacaville by Joan Mumaugh.  All Athletic Directors were present.  Also in attendance:  Carl Everett and Chuck Butz.

 

I           Winter Sports

A.  Basketball Ð The pre-season results form needs to be sent to Mark Wudel (Boys) or Bob Fernandez (Girls) for Section power rating.

B.  Wrestling ÐJoan reminded everyone that weight certification forms needed to be sent to the MEL Commissioner and Thor Jensen (WCW), between January 15th and 25th.

 

II         Spring Sports

A.  Girls Soccer

Vacaville will be playing Varsity and JV games at Horsecreek facility in Vacaville.  Both games will be at 3:30.

B.  Badminton

1.  Wood has a team this season.

2.  Approved League schedule already reflects WoodÕs participation.

C.  Swimming ÐNapa may have a home facility problem due to pool renovation requiring them to host their meets at Napa College.

D.  Softball ÐNapa is also renovating their softball fields which may require them to play some of their League games at an alternate site.

 

III        Fall Sports  -- No reports.

 

IV        Schedules  2005 Ð 2006

A.  Football -- 

1.  Fred handed out a League schedule.  A convoluted rotation was used to assure a good mix of home and away for each school.

2.  Last League game schedule 11/11 (VeteranÕs Day) so do we changed it to 11/10?


 

B.  Golf  Boys and Girls

1.  Jay presented a double round robin schedule with 2 League tournaments.

2.  Additional League tournament provides experience for end of season tournament.

C.  Soccer Boys

1.  Scott presented a double round robin with a League tournament at the end.

2.  Schedule reflects some weeks with 2 contacts and some with one contact.

3.  ADs are asked to share their schedule with Girls Soccer coaches for input.

D.  Volleyball / Girls Tennis Ð Schedule will consist of a triple round robin with Monday, Wednesday competition days.

E.  Cross Country

1.  Follow the previous schedule of dual meets with a center meet at Rockville Park and the League meet at Lagoon Valley.

2.  Davis coach sent a request that the League host only center meets and eliminate dual meets.  Reasons:  1)  poor competition, 2)  students out of class fewer days and 3)  transportation cost wild be reduced.

F.  Water Polo   --  Davis will be responsible for providing the League a triple round robin schedule.

 

Athletic Directors that are responsible for a Fall or Winter sport need to bring hard copies of the 2005 Ð 06 proposed schedules for their sport to the Board of Managers meeting, January 12, 2005.

 

V         Realignment

A.  Each school received the Section proposed League re-alignment, along with analysis, concerns and play-off possibilities.

B.  Fred Jones and Joan reviewed the information from the Section re-alignment meeting 1/5/2005.

C.  Each AD is to share the information with this/her Principal.  Each school also needs to bring the information to the Board of Managers meeting.

 

VI        Other

A.  Officials

1.  Carl Everett and Chuck Butz attended the meeting to review rain out procedures.  Each AD received a handout outlining decorum, rainout policy and school contact numbers for rain outs.

2.  Fields that are fenced in need to have foul lines go all the way to the fence.

3.  Batting circles need to be chalked in.

4.  Softball 2006:  All helmets must have a face cage attachment.  This will be optional for baseball.

5.  Pre-season officials meeting

Baseball   Feb 9th    6 Ð 9    TBA

Softball    Feb 16th   6 Ð 9    TBA

 

B.  Section Back-up Material

1.  Handed out copies of the Back-up Material.

2.  Areas of concern:

a.  OfficialÕs Fees  -- voting item

b.  Discussion Items

i.  Season of Sport Ð Review with coaches.

ii. State Football Proposal.

 

C.  Maryann voiced a concern regarding the ÒLookÓ of the current championship banner.  It was the consensus of the ADs that the banners are too wide.  Joan will ask Larry Rouss of Neff to attend our next meeting to address possible remedies.

 

D.  Future meetings

1.  Board of Managers:   Wednesday, January 12th.  8:30  Armijo High.

2.  Athletic Council:   Thursday  February 10th   3 Oaks at 8:30.
