Athletic Council
3-Oaks Community Center
March 2, 2005
Commissioner Joan Mumaugh called the meeting to order at 8:40 a.m..
Present: All athletic directors were in attendance.
I Winter Sports
A/B Basketball
1. The All League meeting was held 2/21/05. Even though it was a school holiday, all coaches attended.
2. Jay will send Joan the final League standings for updating on the web site.
C. Wrestling
1. League tournament was hosted by Vacaville and everything went fine.
2. Fred will send Joan the final League standings for updating on the web site.
II Spring Sports
A. Badminton
1. All 6 League schools will have teams this year.
2. The League tournament will be May 17th at Armijo High.
B. Baseball
1. Schools with 9th grade teams need to be aware of possible playing field changes at Davis. Patrick will contact schools with information on the site.
2. No other reports.
C. Boys Golf Ð The League tournament will be May 5th
at Hiddenbrook Golf Course.
Tee
times will begin at 11:30 a.m.
D. Girls Soccer
1. Tennis will be traveling with soccer (for most schools) making evening games less favorable.
2. Davis soccer fields drain poorly, so the football field is the alternate facility. Patrick will contact schools if the site changes to the football field.
E. Softball
1. Napa High varsity field is still under renovation. The varsity will play at Kennedy Park (adjacent to Napa JC) until the field is complete.
2. JVs will play at Napa High.
F. Swimming / Diving
1. League diving meet will be at Vacaville High. League swim meet site is still not firm although Napa JC is a possibility.
2. Napa and Vintage will host home diving at Napa J.C. Vintage swimming will be at Napa JC while Napa swimming will be at Napa High.
3. Davis home meets have swimming at Arroyo Pool and diving at Civic Center pool.
4. Armijo will not field a diving team.
G. Boys Tennis
1. Armijo will have home matches at Alan Witt Park.
2. Wood will have home matches again at Browns Valley Club.
H. Track
1. Varsity league meet will be May 11 and 13 at Corbus field in Vallejo. This meet will be in conjunction with SCAC.
2. JV culminating meet will be May 6th at Corbus Field. As set forth in the April 2004 Board of Managers meeting: ÒAthletes may not participate in both JV track finals and then in Varsity trials or finals. Those athletes participating in the JV culminating meet are concluding their season.Ó
III Fall Sports Ð No reports.
IV Schedules 2005 Ð 06
A. Cross country.
1. Bill provided a schedule for next year based on this yearÕs schedule.
2. The schedule will be voted on at the April Board of Managers meeting.
B. Basketball
1. Jay presented both boys and girls schedules for next year. The basic changes are reversal of Home/Away and change of Fridays Boys and Girls schedules.
2. The schedule will be vote on at the April Board of Managers meeting.
C. Football Ð
Fred reminded everyone to move the November 11th competition to
Thursday, November 10th per Board of Managers direction.
V Other
A. Banners
1. Larry Rouss of Neff says the banner can be made with vynal ($77) or felt ($96).
2. Joan will request Larry to attend the April meeting with samples of each.
B. Realignment Ð Brief review of realignment was given by Joan. There are no additional changes for MEL or other Division I leagues.
C. Dale Lackey -- The Standing Committee is scheduled to meet Thursday, March 4th to select the MEL representatives.
D. Play-offs Ð Basketball. Congratulations to all teams that competed in the Section tournament. Special congratulations to Armijo boys and Vacaville girls for getting to Arco.
E. Wrestling Ð Congratulations to Vacaville for winning the Section individual title. Good luck to all MEL competitors going on to State competition.
VI Future meetings.
